Safety Representative

Certification: A IOSH Certificate will be awarded to each successful participant on this course

Course Objective:

It is aimed at all personnel whom may have been selected, elected, or appointed to represent their fellow employees as their Safety Representative. The course is based upon The Health & Safety Authority Guidelines on Safety Representatives, which followed the 2005 Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act.

Candidate Requirement:

Employees to have been nominated as Safety Representatives in their workplace.

Course Content:

Day One

  • Registration & Introduction
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills for dealing with Health & Safety
  • Role Play
  • Conducting Meetings
  • Discipline In the Workplace
  • Legislation Introduction, 2007 Regulations, Noise Regulations and Construction Regulations 2006
  • Role of the Safety Representative

Day Two

  • Further Legislation-Noise Regulations, Construction Regs. Chemical Agents Regs, Pregnant Employees Regulations. Etc.
  • The Safety Statement
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments An Explanation
  • General Workplace Hazards: Chemicals, Electricity, Offices, house keeping & Manual Handling.
  • Workshop: Carrying out Risk Assessments including visit to the workplace.
  • Accident Statistics. The Real Cost of Accidents. Accidents Investigation & Recording.

Day Three

  • Emergency Arrangements & Fire Safety, Evacuation Procedures. First Aid.
  • Workshop: Carrying out Safety Inspections (Visit to Workshop)
  • Occupational Health & Hygiene: Asthma, Dermatitis, Transfer of Infection, Health Checks Screening (eyes, hearing etc.)
  • Other Safety Issues. Ergonomics, Workplace, Transport, Work at Height, Construction Work, P.P.E, Machinery, Noise, etc.
