Course Objective:
The module is designed to enable the learner to gain an in depth understanding of the role and function of management in the business environment, and to develop effective management skills.
Candidate Requirement:
Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.
Course Content:
Day 1 : The Internal Organisation & The External Environment
- Differentiate between public private and voluntary sectors
- Understand what an organisations objectives; vision; mission & policies are for
- Understand an organisational chart and the interdependency of each department to achieve organisational objectives
- Why and how organisations must adopt to change
- SWOT and PESTLE analysis
- Distinguish between macro and micro environments that organisations operate in
Day 2 : The Management Process & Human Behaviour
- Understand the functions and roles of management
- Explain effective means of monitoring; control and effective feedback mechanisms used in organisations
- Identify models for project management; decision making and planning
- Design procedures for conflict resolution; internal communication and 2 ways of measuring performance
- Understand human behaviour; leadership styles and motivation
Day 3 : Human Resource Management
- Understand role of HRM and how to prepare a job spec and candidate profile
- Explain recruitment; selection; appraisal and conflict resolution
- Practice all the HR functions in role play
- Outline the benefits of staff training and development
Day 4 : Management Skills
- Managing resources and writing reports
- Planning and organising work using appropriate work systems
- Supervisory skills in monitoring work performances
- Organising and leading skills
Assessment
Two Assignments 50%; Project 50%
